Getting Started: Band Page

This article is intended to give you an introduction to the Band page, which is where you can manage the data for a specific band.

The band page can be navigated to either from the main side menu, or from one of the overview options in the Event Overview Page.    The Band Page is the main area where all data associated with a band is maintained.  Along the top of the page is quick access data giving you a quick overview of some essential information for the band.    The main body of the page is taken up by the channel list. The channel list has a few helpful features which make entering and updating band data quick and easy.    Short name column - Some mixing consoles only allow for a limited number of characters to be assigned to a channels digital scribble strip. By setting the number of characters for the short name in the Preferences section, whenever you enter a new channel name, the first amount of characters up to the limit set in preferences is automatically pulled into this column. This can be a helpful way to visualize what the channel list will look like on one of these consoles.    Source & Stand - By building an inventory in the inventory page of the project section, when you begin to type the name of a source or stand, the channel list will give you options to choose from, from the event inventory. Also, populating information in the Source and Stand columns will populate the inventory summary tables to the right side of the channel list.   48V - While this button can be toggled manually, it can also be toggled automatically depending on the source you have chosen. If you build an inventory, and assign a source to have 48V ON for that source, then every time you add that source to the channel list it will automatically toggle the phantom power. The global toggle setting can be changed in the Preferences setting.   Position - The position column can be toggled to be visible inside of the patch matrix view, this is helpful when making patches form the matrix view.    Patch - The patch column shows the patch assigned to the channel, this can be edited in multiple places, one of which being here in the band page. Simply enter the name and channel numbers of the box you want to patch to, and the patch column will update to show it. You also get the same error checking here as you do in the Matrix Patch view.    Custom Columns - These columns are useful for custom data which you also want to track, but don't want to conflict with other data in the table.    All columns - All columns can be dragged and dropped in case you prefer your table in a different view.    All rows - All rows can be dragged and dropped in case you need to move channels around, a drag and drop of a channel in a like for like action, so you don't need to consider updating any information, Master Patch takes care of all of that for you.    Inventory overview tables  The inventory overview tables can be found to the right of the main channel list table. While these of course give you an overview of the inventory required to build this band, these tables have a couple of other useful features.    Quantity used and available - The # column shows you how many sources or stands are needed in total for this band, while the Available column shows you how many of those devices you have available after the subtraction of the devices needed to build the band. Green in Available means there are enough in inventory to build this band, while orange indicates there are not.    Pre/Post band builds - Either side of an inventory item can be seem some coloured dots. These dots show the availability of devices based on the needs of the band before, and the band after the one you are looking at.  If a light is green, it means you have enough inventory to build the band before/after, and this band, while a red pulsing light indicates that there is not enough inventory of them item to build both the current band and the band before/after. This gives you a quick overview of it you need to adjust allocations in the channel list.    Substitutions view - By default, the inventory summery tables only should you the inventory needed to build this band, however you might find that you dont have enough inventory of your first preference, and a substitute with an alternative option from your inventory is required.  By double clicking on the table header, the table overview will also show all devices in the inventory, this is a quick way to see what is available and viable substitution options at a quick glance.    Export Data: At the bottom of the Band Page the options to export data can be found. When exporting band data there are a few options available to the user.
  • CSV, useful for incorporating into other programmes.
  • PDF, useful for advancing or presentation purposes.
  • LUCA, the proprietary LUCA file type for a band, allows easy import to other instances of Master Patch.
Publish: For more information on publishing please see our article on publishing.    The Side Slider.  On the right hand side of the page a series of buttons can be found, clicking on one of these buttons will navigate you to the side slider tab for that button, these are:
  • Matrix Patch
  • Stageplot Builder
  • Output Patch
  • Satboxe View
  • Notes and Queries
  • Other Band Data
Check out our separate articles on each of these tabs to find out more about them.   Matric Patch The matrix patch view is a convenient way to make a lot of patches at once, or to build complex patches easily.  Along the top of the table the satboxes and their individual boxes can be seen. Along the left of the table the channel names can be seen.  By clicking at the intersection between a box channel, and a channel list channel, a patch can be made.  The table shading shows which channels in boxes have already been used, so you don't accidentally double patch, however if you do try to make a double patch, Master Patch will ask you before it commits the change. Boxes which are ganged will also gray the corresponding channel on their gang group partners, in this way it is quick and easy to see which channels on which boxes are already allocated in the patch.    Along the very top of the page a few additional options can be seen.  Clear Patch: You have the ability to clear the patch for a box, or alternatively the entire system.  Show/Hide position: This will show the position column from the channel list, which can be useful when making a complex patch to remember where channels are physically located on the stage.  Channel Disable: In the event that you have a dead line on your line system, you can disable it here so that it cant be patched to or used in any patch throughout the system. Note: If you disable a channel it will remove any channels patched to it throughout the entire event, however Master Patch will warn you before it commits this change incase you made this change by mistake.
